Cover me. This is my prayer, my hope, my request. šš¾šš¾
I saw this video earlier this month and it spoke to my spirit. I am not doing well right now. I know Iām not the only one.
It is only the second week of January and Iām already ā or more accurately, STILL ā burned out.
How does one recover? How??
Adulting continues relentlessly.
Life must be lived. Work must be done. Bills must be paid. Chores must be completed. Deadlines must be met.
But I need rest. We. Need. Rest.
Many of you know that I broke my right foot in summer of last year. It took (is taking) months to heal, because, without a support system, I had to keep walking on it. I couldnāt rest.
Burnout is the same.
All the meditation apps, power naps, and productivity hacks in the world wonāt help when what one really needs is full rest.
All these companies (the ones that havenāt laid off their staff š©š©) that offer yoga classes and the likeā¦I meanā¦thatās nice, but what about creating a system and culture that people donāt have to recover from? I have many times experienced being seriously ill, and having people from work contact me to ask about some ridiculous and non-essential deliverable. But, you know⦠“Weāre a family.ā š
I am sharing this in part because people often get fooled/distracted by shiny things and forget what really matters.
People matter.
The stuff, the things…those arenāt as important as we make them out to be.
Most of us, despite what āthe stakeholdersā would have us believe, are not doing work that is genuinely urgent.
Seriously.
Medical personnel aside, most of us are not doing anything that is life or death. Important, yes; but not urgent.
The urgency is false.
The high-speed treadmill that weāre on is unnecessary.
We need to recalibrate. Likeā¦everything.
None of this is sustainable.Ā
Not for me, and I’m willing to bet not for you.
Anywayā¦watch the video, and let me know what you think.
I definitely need to be covered. I need to reload. I am praying for relief.
What about you?
